Up Up and Awake

Jesus, how do people who have regular insomnia cope? It fucking sucks. And I only get it a couple times a year. I know people who get it all the time. How are they not bananas? I think I would rather be sick than have insomnia. At least you usually feel better after throwing up. Insomnia just drags on.

I will tell you, however, that what makes insomnia much better is a laptop attached to the interweb.

For round one, from about midnight to 1:30, I brought my wee beauty into bed with me and watched The Last Polka, about the Schmenge Brothers.

You know, I wouldn't really even have counted that as insomnia except that it felt like 3 hours instead of an hour and a half, and then I was up again at 4:30.

Facebook and a laptop is ideal for someone who is too tired to get out of bed, too tired to read, and apparently, too tired to sleep.

At least all I'm doing today is sitting in Eric's driveway and selling stuff. Because I'm not sure I'm good for much else.

I turn insomnic pretty regularly. It's how my body and psyche deal with stress. It can be debilitating, especially when it just goes on and on and on. But over time I've learned to stop fighting it. When I realize it's going to be one of those nights, I get out of bed and do the following:

+ eat cereal, toast, or whatever carb I have on hand.
+ watch a favorite movie I've seen a bajillion times (usually its Some Like It Hot, Die Hard, or Singing in the Rain).
+ get on the sofa.

The food helps make my body tired. The familiar, well-worn movie distracts my brain from mulling over whatever it is that's stressing me out. The sofa helps somehow.. I think it's because the pressure to sleep is lifted. And it's easier then to nod off.
